Today's Devotional

Friday, July 17, 2026 — Proverbs 23:7

"For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he: as he eateth and drinketh, so are the rags of his thoughts."

Marcus sat in his small apartment, staring at the rejection email from the job interview. For weeks, he had prepared meticulously—practiced answers, researched the company, even ironed his best shirt. Yet as he read those familiar words, "We regret to inform you," something shifted within him. Instead of dwelling on his perceived failures, he paused. He realized that his thoughts had begun to whisper the lie: "You're not good enough. You never will be." These silent words had started reshaping how he saw himself, dimming the light of possibility that once burned bright within him.

That evening, Marcus made a deliberate choice. He opened his journal and began writing down thoughts of truth: his genuine strengths, the obstacles he had overcome, the skills he had developed through persistence. As he filled page after page with reminders of God's faithfulness in his life, something remarkable happened. His posture straightened. A small smile returned to his face. The rejection still stung, but it no longer defined him. He understood now that the battle wasn't just external—it was happening in the garden of his mind, where every thought either planted seeds of faith or weeds of doubt.

The next morning, Marcus approached his job search with renewed determination. His thoughts had shifted, and with them, his entire demeanor transformed. He wasn't the same discouraged man from yesterday—he was someone who had chosen to align his thoughts with truth, and that choice had reshaped him from the inside out.

Prayer

Father, help me to guard my thoughts with the same care a gardener tends his most precious plants. When doubt and discouragement whisper lies to my heart, grant me the wisdom and strength to replace them with Your truth. Transform my mind so that I might reflect Your love and confidence in all I do. Amen.
