Today's Devotional

Saturday, May 30, 2026 — Proverbs 22:6

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

Margaret watched her seven-year-old grandson fumble with the bicycle pedals, wobbling unsteadily on the driveway. Instead of rushing to catch him, she stayed nearby, offering steady words of encouragement. "Keep your eyes forward, not down," she called gently. "Feel the rhythm of the pedals." It took weeks of patient practice, but one afternoon, he suddenly found his balance and rode freely down the sidewalk, laughing with pure joy. Margaret realized that this simple lesson about bicycles mirrored something deeper: the gentle, consistent guidance we offer shapes not just immediate skills, but the very character of those we love.

As parents and mentors, we are planting seeds that may not bear fruit for years. A child learns honesty not from a single lecture, but from watching us admit our mistakes. They learn kindness by seeing us extend grace to others, again and again. They learn faith by observing how we trust God through our own struggles. The investment is daily, sometimes frustrating, often invisible in the moment—but Proverbs assures us that these seeds take root in the soil of a young person's heart and grow throughout their lifetime. When temptation comes in their teenage years, or when they face difficult choices as adults, those early teachings become an inner compass guiding them home.

Prayer

Lord, give me wisdom and patience to guide the young ones in my life with love and consistency. Help me model the values and faith I wish to instill. May my words and actions plant seeds of truth that bear fruit for decades to come. Amen.
